Private Internet Access implores you to vote “NO” on H.R. 6172, the USA FREEDOM Reauthorization Act of 2020 which would extend and expand the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to allow access to internet history without a warrant.
The American Civil Liberties Union sued the U.S. Department of Justice in January, claiming the government wrongly refused to confirm or deny the existence of social media surveillance records in violation of the Freedom of Information Act. The ACLU claims multiple government agencies are ramping up efforts to monitor activity on online social networks, a surveillance tactic that “implicates the free speech of millions of social media users.”.
It also found that both the method of bulk interception of communications and the process for obtaining communications metadata from service providers violated Article 10 (freedom of expression) because of "insufficient safeguards in respect of confidential journalistic material." And of particular concern to the court was the lack of any oversight into what Internet traffic was collected or what filters were used to determine which traffic was of interest.
